I knew ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’ was going to be a great song for Crystal Bowersox the moment Ryan Seacrest announced she would be singing it for R&B week. Ryan Seacrest had previously announced the surprise that also came with Crystal Bowersox that night: she was wearing stilettos.
The next surprise was uncovered during Crystal Bowersox’s coaching session with Usher. Rather than playing the guitar like usual, she would be playing the piano during “Midnight Train to Georgia”. Don’t worry, fans, she won’t need any credit repair for changing up her routine.

Bowersox said to Usher when she first sat down to play “Midnight Train to Georgia” that she hadn’t played piano in a few years. Although Usher told her she should work on her piano, he also told her she’d do well. She might as well just start spending her cash now; her musical career appears to be within the bag.
As she usually does, she did really great. Randy, Ellen and Kara raved about everything – mostly the piano and the high heels. Simon, the ever dour one, said she obviously was over thinking the piano park and that she shouldn’t let the competition alter her one bit. As you may assume, he did not like the heels and questioned whether or not Crystal Bowersox was going out of her own character. She told him she would never do anything that made her feel uncomfortable.
