Video game industry makes U.S. economy go up a bit

Video games all got to start out with things like Pac Man and Space Invaders. It is clear that there has been a leap in technology. Economists Incorporated reports that a study done for Entertainment Software Association called “Video Games in the 21st Century: The 2010 Report,” showed $ 5 billion was going to the economy in 2009 because of these games. From 2005 to 2009, the video game industry’s annual growth has exceeded 10 percent, which is more than seven times the growth of the entire U.S. economy.

Jobs made possible because of video games

ESA CEO Michael Gallagher said in a press release that job creation within the video game industry has continued at a “rapid pace,” when making “an significant contribution to our nation’s economy when stimulating technological innovations and expanding the impact of games on our daily lives.” The video gaming industry regularly employs more than 32,000, and their average annual salary is $ 89,781, as outlined by the survey. Directly or indirectly, the video game industry employs more than 120,000 people within the United States.

California is the golden state for the industry

California has had a lot of video game industry workers living there. In fact, it is the largest employer of them. It provided more than$ 2.6 billion in direct and indirect compensation to its employees in 2009. The state benefited from this too. $ 2.1 billion in revenue was received.

Texas has 13,613 employees with Washington at 11,225. Virginia had a large expansion with a 77 percent increase between 2005 and 2009.

Some of the value put towards entertainment

During a recession, entertainment expenses are among the first things to be downsized in a family’s budget. Video gaming is pricey with PCs costing a ton and consoles being anywhere from $ 200 to $ 500. You’re looking at more for the games too. $ 20 to $ 60 is needed for each game. But if a consumer can derive someplace between 40 and 100 hours of playtime from a well-constructed game, the price seems much more reasonable, particularly when compared with more passive styles of entertainment like movies, the price of which has skyrocketed in recent years. Video games have been proven to promote hand-eye coordination and even have therapeutic and developmental uses. Plus the video game industry has had optimistic effects on the U.S. economy.
